Travel is stressful enough. But add in a pet, and the entire experience becomes a lot more stressful. Whether you decide to travel with your pet or leave your furry friend behind, a lot of thought and planning must be completed in order to properly travel. This blog will talk about what to consider when you leave your pet at home.
If you choose to keep your pet at home, there are many things to consider. First, what kind of pet do you have? The usual rule is that cats can be left alone for many days. Dogs on the other hand is a bit more complicated.
You can have trusted friends and/or family come over to your house to check on your dog (i.e., feed them, let them out, probably clean up their messes). Another option that I have used is getting a pet sitter. At first, we started out by scouting dog sitters and meeting them to make sure the arrangement would be best for us and our dog. The nice thing about this arrangement is that the timeframe of our trip does not effect this method. We have used our dog sitter for one-day trips and for a whole week.
Speaking of timing, that is another essential part to consider. If you are traveling for a sustained period of time, then whatever the animal you have, it is necessary that someone checks in from time to time.
