Fun Drinks for Pets

Fun Drinks for Pets

Drinking is practically an American pastime.  And as this week was going on, I realized that yesterday (Wednesday) was National Wine Day.  As much as I would love to celebrate such a holiday with my furry friend, alcohol is incredibly dangerous to cats and dogs alike.  As much of a bummer as that is, there are fun drinks on the market that will allow you to celebrate with your best friend!

First is cat wine.  Cat wine, of course, has no actual alcohol in it.  Rather it includes beet juice, preservatives, and some contain catnip.  The catnip mellows the cat, not unlike what alcohol does to humans.  Make sure to check with your vet first to make sure that cat wine would be good for your furry baby.  In particular, beet juice can be harmful to diabetic cats or those with gastrointestinal issues.  If your vet advises against cat wine, there are other options available.  Catnip tea is just as it sounds: you distill catnip in water (just make sure it’s not too hot for your cat).  You can also freeze chicken broth and put some in your cat’s dish.  Either way, it is always fun to mix up your cat’s menu!

Now for dogs.  Believe it or not, there are dog beers!  Unlike cat wine, there will be no “buzz” for your dog.  This beer is made from vegetable broth and wort (a type of grain).  Usually this ingredient is thrown away when making actual beer, but it makes for a fun dog drink!  Again, make sure to check with your dog’s vet before serving it to them to make sure there will be no issues.

Hopefully you found this blog post helpful and will treat your dog or cat with something special soon!  Again, we remind you that it is not safe to give your pet any alcohol as it is not healthy for them.  We hope you have a great rest of your week and enjoy drinking with your furry friends!
